Following a significant announcement by Rouse Avenue Court about Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's remand granted to the Enforcement Directorate until March 28, Kejriwal spoke to 'Aaj Tak' from the courtroom declaring his refusal to resign and his readiness to govern from inside the jail walls, should the need arise.
In an extensive interview with Aaj Tak, Kejriwal spoke candidly about his arrest, reiterating his resolve to not resign and to steer the government from behind bars if pushed to the limit. 'Whether inside or outside, the government will be administered from there,' Kejriwal stated, affirming, 'We may face challenges, but we will strive to work through them. This is the will of the people of Delhi.'
Unanticipated ED Move Surprises Kejriwal
Regarding his health, Kejriwal claimed it was in 'top-notch condition'. Caught off-guard by the ED's swift action, he mentioned, 'I didn't expect the ED to act so quickly following the High Court's order, assuming they would wait at least 2-3 days before arresting me. The sudden ED operation didn't even allow me the chance to seek blessings from my parents as I sat with them.'
Intent Isn't Inquiry – Kejriwal on ED Conduct
Kejriwal noted the Enforcement Directorate's dignified treatment, emphasizing that no interrogation took place overnight and none is expected during the remand. Responding to inquiries about his fears, he confidently stated, 'I am not at all frightened and I am fully prepared for whatever they require. Their true intention isn’t interrogation. It’s the support of the people that truly matters.'
On allegations of him being the mastermind behind the liquor scam, Kejriwal responded, 'The policy passed through multiple levels of scrutiny – signed by the Law Secretary, the Finance Secretary, and even the Lieutenant Governor. I’m baffled as to why only Kejriwal and Sisodia are accused.'
Serious ED Allegations
The ED alleged Chief Minister Kejriwal's involvement in the formulation, implementation, and irregularities of the liquor policy, claiming he conspired with ministers and others to benefit certain individuals consequently engaging in corruption. The agency stressed that Kejriwal hatched the policy to secure illicit profits exchanged for advantages granted to the liquor business in the 2021-22 policy.
The agency also claimed that Kejriwal, along with Vijay Nair and Manish Sisodia, exchanged funds with the southern lobby, using some of these illegally acquired funds for electioneering in Goa. The agency's remand notice alleged that Kejriwal was intimately involved in the operations, with Nair acting as an intermediary close to Kejriwal's residence and aiding in the bribery process. The ED claims to have substantial evidence against them.
