Sunrisers Hyderabad Ownership Dispute:
The CEO of the Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL team, Kavya Maran, might be facing growing challenges due to a major internal family dispute. Her father, Kalanithi Maran, the owner of South India's major media company, Sun Network, is embroiled in serious money laundering allegations. This issue was raised by her uncle and former MP, Dayanidhi Maran.
The core of the dispute hinges on the company's shareholding. Prior to 2003, the Maran and Karunanidhi families equally owned shares in the company. However, alterations occurred post-2003. Allegations surfaced that the company's funds were misused to establish ventures such as Sun Direct TV, Sun Pictures, FM channels, and the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

If the court rules to restore the former share pattern, it could alter Sun Network's ownership dynamics. This, in turn, could impact the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In such scenarios, the BCCI might need to intervene and possibly mandate Sun TV to sell the team. If this transpires, Kavya Maran, a regular sight at each IPL match, might no longer remain the team owner. Without timely resolution, this dispute could become a nightmare for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and its fans.
SRH's Performance in IPL 2025
In IPL 2025, the performance of Sunrisers Hyderabad was quite underwhelming, ending the season in the sixth position with 6 wins, 7 losses, and one no-result out of 14 games. Kavya Maran had retained players such as Heinrich Klaasen (23 crores), Pat Cummins (18 crores), Travis Head (14 crores), Abhishek Sharma (14 crores), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (6 crores). However, their performance did not match expectations set from 2023.
