In a significant breakthrough, the Kaushambi police from Uttar Pradesh have dismantled a notorious gang known for stealing necklaces and chains from women visiting temples. The gang, comprising seven women and two men, has been apprehended. Authorities have recovered 19 necklaces, five surgical blades, an auto, and a firearm from them.

All arrested members hail from the same village, identified as Vimlesh Saroj, Sameem Khan, Saroj Devi, Kachni Devi, Fulmatia Devi, Nanki Devi, Archana Saroj, Kranti Saroj, and Kumari Devi.

Acting on a tip-off, the Saini police team intercepted an auto carrying the gang. These individuals exploited the hustle and bustle of temples and markets to snatch jewelry from women. Additional SP Rajesh Singh revealed that the gang was active in targeting women in temples, fairs, and markets, having already victimized several women.

An Arsenal of Tools and Weapons

The gang's haul included not only necklaces but also tools tailored for theft. Alongside the 19 necklaces, police recovered 5 surgical blades and an illegal firearm, likely used to intimidate if confronted. These surgical blades were possibly employed to discreetly cut necklaces amid crowds. Such an armory suggests they weren't mere thieves—they were seasoned criminals.

The Village's Hidden Syndicate

Investigations revealed that all nine culprits were residents of Baishkati village, located in the jurisdiction of Karari police station. It’s surprising how many from a single village collaborated in running a theft enterprise. While the police have ensured their incarceration, the looming question is how many similar gangs might still be lurking, defying the sanctity of even sacred places?
