In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, a special one-day session of the Jammu & Kashmir assembly was convened on Monday. Legislators from the region paid homage to the 26 people killed in the terror strike on April 22 in the Basran Valley, observing two minutes of silence for their peace. Meanwhile, National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah watched the assembly proceedings from the visitor's gallery.
The Union Territory's Deputy Chief Minister and NC leader, Surendra Choudhary, introduced a proposal condemning the Pahalgam terror attack.
The proposal introduced in the assembly said, "This house fully supports the actions taken by the central government after the Pahalgam terror attack. On behalf of the nation, the house expresses deep grief over the barbaric and inhumane assault on innocent civilians in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, unequivocally condemning this heinous and cowardly act. Such terrorist acts are a direct assault on the spirit of Kashmiriyat, the values enshrined in our constitution, and the long-standing ethos of unity, peace, and harmony that define Jammu & Kashmir and our nation."
The assembly's special session included a resolution stating, "This house stands in full solidarity with the victims and their families. We express deep condolences to those who have suffered irreparable loss and affirm our collective resolve to share their grief and provide support in their time of need. This house honors martyr Syed Adil Hussain Shah's supreme sacrifice, as he bravely attempted to save tourists by giving up his life."

Security agencies accountable for lapses...
Congress legislator Ghulam Ahmed Mir stated, "We are stunned and saddened by the Pahalgam terror attack, and we unequivocally condemn it. For the first time, the people of Kashmir called for a 'bandh' against a terrorist attack. We appreciate the government's move to call an all-party meeting on this issue, with all parties extending their support to the government."
He further mentioned that questions cannot be raised against the Abdullah government as the law and order are not under its jurisdiction. The security agencies must be held accountable for the lapse. We will support any action taken by the government.
