The Karnataka Education Department has decided to revise the timetable for Urdu schools during the month of Ramadan. According to the directives issued by the department, all Urdu schools in the state will have shortened education hours. Students will now be called in at 8 AM instead of 10 AM.
Ramadan may start on March 11
Indeed, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar is considered sacred. The exact date of Ramadan is determined after sighting the moon on the last day of Sha'aban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. This year, if the moon is sighted on March 11, fasting for Ramadan will start from March 12 and will continue for 29 or 30 days. The Education Department of Karnataka has issued orders to adjust the timings of Urdu schools during the month of Ramadan.
Not until 4:20 PM, classes in madrasas will end at 12:45 PM
As per the issued directive, during the month of Ramadan, Urdu schools will be operational from 8 AM to 12:45 PM instead of the regular hours from 10 AM to 4:20 PM. This change, keeping in mind the month of Ramadan, will apply to students in government-supported, aided, and non-aided institutions for Urdu primary and secondary schools.
Other schools to dismiss 30 minutes early
This order will remain in effect until April 10, 2024 (Ramadan). Additionally, according to decisions inspired by the Urdu Teachers Association, State Language Minority Welfare and Development Association, Karnataka State Muslim Employees Association, and MLA Rizwan Arshad, other schools will allow Muslim students to leave half an hour before class ends.
