Chaos and confusion often lead to outcomes no one can anticipate. A missed task here, an unintended outcome there, but what if confusion leads to committing three murders? This is a spine-chilling tale where the intended target escapes, but an innocent family's lives are claimed in a grave mistake.

In the quiet city of Gadag, Karnataka, a night's events on 18th-19th April around 2:15 AM in Dasar lane's households will send shivers down your spine. Suddenly, screams pierced the night from the house of Gadag-Betagiri Municipal Vice President Prakash Bakale. Prakash and his wife Sunanda's screams were so horrifying that the neighbors knew something dreadful was happening. In a blink, a crowd gathered outside, and the Quick Response Team of police arrived at the scene. The officers encountered a scene that froze them in their tracks.

In the span of a few minutes, four murders had taken place inside the house. The victims were Prakash Bakale's 27-year-old son Kartik and three relatives - Parashuram Hadimani, his wife Lakshmi, and their 16-year-old daughter Aakanksha. However, Prakash and Sunanda Bakale miraculously survived. The assailants targeted the Hadimani family on the upper floor, mistaking them for the Bakales, due to a previous day's travel delay.

The police formed teams to investigate the crime from multiple angles. Some traced local bandit gangs and their past activities, while others extracted data from CCTV footage and mobile surveillance.

Was the intent only burglary, or was there more to this?

Despite having the CCTV images, no positive ID was made. The house had been tossed, but it was not just a simple burglary. Delving deeper, police unearthed a familial feud involving property. Prakash had two sons from two marriages: Vinayak, the elder, was bitter and estranged from the family.

Conflict Over Property Between Prakash and Vinayak

Prakash revealed a recent quarrel with Vinayak over property transactions. Vinayak, without informing Prakash, had dealt with three properties, leading to a threat from his father.

Investigation revealed that on April 17, Kartik, Prakash and Sunanda's son, had an engagement ceremony, but Vinayak didn't attend. Guests, including the ill-fated Hadimani family, were supposed to leave the next day; they missed their train and decided to stay another night, an unfortunate decision that cost them their lives.

Police traced the larger conspiracy back to Vinayak, who had hired killers to murder his father, stepmother, and half-brother. Vinayak had given a contract worth 65 lakhs, with a 2 lakh advance. In a dramatic twist, he confirmed his rage over the family feud involving properties. But the hired assassins were unaware of the identity of their targets, resulting in the tragic deaths of the uninvolved Hadimani family.
