Chaos erupted in Karnataka after an objectionable video of DGP rank IPS officer Dr. Ramchandra Rao, stationed in Bengaluru, went viral. The footage allegedly shows the officer in his official uniform engaging in inappropriate acts with a woman in a government office during duty hours. Secretly recorded, the footage depicts the officer hugging and kissing the woman.

Upon emergence, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken a detailed briefing from the department. The CM expressed significant anger after watching the video. Currently serving as Director General at the Civil Rights Enforcement Directorate, Rao has outright dismissed these allegations.

In a conversation with India Today, DGP Ramchandra Rao declared the video to be entirely morphed and termed it a conspiracy aimed at targeting him. The government is now investigating the video's authenticity and the allegations of misconduct.

The viral video has raised serious questions about discipline and ethical standards within the police department. Reports suggest that women visited the officer's office on different occasions, each time wearing different attire.

Though there's no accusation of coercion, such conduct inside a government chamber during duty hours is seen as a violation of a senior police officer's dignity.

The incident has stirred unrest in administrative circles. CM Siddaramaiah is reported to be very upset, and there is talk in political circles that strict disciplinary or legal action may be taken against the officer. The case has gained additional attention because the central figure in the gold smuggling case, Ranya Rao, is his daughter.

Siddaramaiah stated, “We will investigate the matter now. I found out about it this morning. Following that, disciplinary action will be taken against him. No matter how senior, no one is above the law. If there is a shortfall in discipline, it will be investigated and then the appropriate action will be taken.”

DGP Ramchandra Rao has defended himself by asserting the video was altered to tarnish his reputation by those intentionally harassing him. For now, the administration's full focus is on verifying the video's authenticity. Public criticism is harsh as the incident has severely affected the ethical integrity of the police force.
