The entire northern India is currently battling an extreme heatwave. People are fainting and falling on the streets daily, with lives being claimed by the scorching heat. A similar tragic incident has emerged from Kanpur, where a head constable stationed at the Police Line succumbed to death after collapsing from heatstroke.
According to information received, head constable Braj Kishore Singh, originally from Jhansi, had taken three days off and was on his way home to Jhansi Tuesday morning. He collapsed just outside the station. A stationed officer then approached and began filming the incident.
After some time, Braj Kishore was taken to a nearby private hospital. There, during treatment, he passed away. Following the incident and the subsequent viral spread of the video on social media, questions are being raised as to why the head constable was not immediately taken to the hospital and why he was being filmed instead.
Kanpur police ACP Mohsin Khan has stated that the head constable Braj Kishore passed away during the course of treatment. His body will soon be sent for an autopsy. Initially, it is presumed that he might have died of heatstroke. The exact cause of death will be ascertained after the post-mortem report.
As for the officer recording the incident, it is possible that the video was being taken to note down the constable's name and batch number. Nevertheless, an investigation is ongoing into the matter, and necessary action will be taken. Meanwhile, in different parts of the city, the heatwave is suspected of causing at least 12 other fatalities. Police have sent all the bodies for autopsy following the initial investigation.
