Actor Kamal Haasan has alleged that the southern states, including Tamil Nadu, are being subjected to forced imposition of Hindi and favoring Hindi-speaking regions through delimitation. Haasan coined the term HINDIA to describe this situation. He criticized the central government for trying to transform the nation into HINDIA. Kamal Haasan, a popular Hindi film actor, shared his opinion on the proposed delimitation scheme planned for 2026, suggesting that such decisions wouldn't favor non-Hindi speaking states.
It’s noteworthy that today (March 5), Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M.K. Stalin convened an all-party meeting to discuss the delimitation issue. Kamal Haasan, leader of Tamil Nadu's political party Makkal Needhi Maiam, also attended this important gathering.
Kamal Haasan, President of Makkal Needhi Maiam, sharply criticized the central government's efforts to delimit parliamentary constituencies and warned that this could harm India's federal structure and diversity. During the all-party meeting, Haasan critiqued the central government's actions, emphasizing that such moves threaten India's inclusive vision by transforming it into HINDIA.

Haasan expressed, "The issue of delimitation based on population is not just a concern for Tamil Nadu; it also affects states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Odisha, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and the northeastern states."
He acknowledged the broader implications of this measure and thanked Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for organizing the meeting. Haasan also praised the participation of Tamil Nadu's parties, which set aside ideological differences to engage in this crucial discussion. He stated, "I sincerely commend Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for conducting this all-party meeting with such awareness."
Reinforcing his stand, Haasan declared, "States that contribute to national development by controlling population growth should not be punished." He elaborated on the core principles of democracy and federalism, adding, "In this debate, we must focus on these two key principles: democracy and federalism. These are like two eyes guiding us, and it's only by valuing both can we achieve the dream of an inclusive and developed India."
Furthermore, actor Kamal Haasan remarked,
"We envision an inclusive India, but they wish to build 'HINDIA.' Why fix what's not broken? A functioning democracy shouldn't be continually disrupted. Regardless of how constituencies are realigned, non-Hindi speaking states will always be the most affected."
He added that this move undermines federalism and is utterly unnecessary. Not just today or tomorrow, but always, maintaining the number of parliamentary representatives unchanged is crucial for preserving democracy, federalism, and India's diversity. "As an Indian, I emphasize this," he concluded.
