The serene landscapes of Rajasthan's Jodhpur district were jolted early Sunday by a severe road accident that left the whole region in shock. On National Highway 125, near the village of Khari Beri by Balesar, a head-on collision between a pilgrim-laden tempo and a high-speed trailer resulted in the tragic death of six individuals, with another 14 suffering serious injuries. All involved were from Gujarat's Banaskantha and Dhansura areas, journeying for a spiritual visit to Ramdevra.
According to reports from news agencies, SHO Mul Singh Bhati of Balesar police station stated that the tempo carried approximately 20 devotees. Around 4 AM, as the vehicle traversed through Khari Beri, it was struck by an oncoming trailer moving at high speed. The collision was so intense that six people, including three women, died on the spot. Their bodies are now held at the mortuary of Balesar's government hospital.
Following the accident, the anguished cries of the injured prompted immediate response from local residents and police, who rushed them to the hospital. SHO Mul Singh Bhati shared that 14 victims, after receiving initial medical attention, were transferred to Jodhpur's MDM Hospital for further treatment. Many of the injured remain in critical condition.
Upon notification of the accident, a police team arrived at the scene to conduct an inspection. Preliminary investigations revealed that the trailer was traveling at an excessive speed, and the driver lost control. Consequently, the police have filed a case against the trailer driver and initiated an inquiry. The trailer, loaded with grain bags, spilled its contents across the road post-collision, disrupting traffic flow.
