Following a grueling interrogation, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Alamgir Alam, a Minister in the Jharkhand government. Earlier, a raid on the residence of his personal secretary's domestic helper led to the recovery of an astonishing sum exceeding 37 crore rupees. This dramatic development followed extensive questioning related to the case, after which ED confirmed his arrest.
Jharkhand's Minister for Rural Development, Alamgir Alam, underwent questioning from 11 AM today, which ended with the ED certifying his detention. The minister was initially summoned by the agency on Sunday and was directed to report to the ED's zonal office in Ranchi on the 14th of May. Post a 10-hour interrogation on Tuesday, he was called in again today for further questioning.
ED Raid on May 6
On May 6, the ED orchestrated a raid on the apartment of Jahangir Alam, the domestic worker for Alamgir Alam's private secretary Sanjeev Lal, unearthing cash worth over 37 crores. Following the raid, both Alam and Sanjeev Lal were detained. The agency conducted multiple raids in Ranchi recently, which is when the cash was discovered. Numerous counting machines were brought in to tally the stacks of 500 rupee notes. Besides the cash, officers also recovered some jewelry from Jahangir Alam's flat.

Who is Alamgir Alam?
Alamgir Alam, a four-time congress legislator from Pakur assembly, is currently serving as the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Rural Development. Having inherited once political legacy, Alamgir entered the political arena by winning the Sarpanch election. In 2000, he became an MLA for the first time and has since been elected four times. In 2005, Alamgir won the Pakur constituency, defeating Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's Akil Akhtar by 18,066 votes. Akhtar had won the assembly seat in 2009, but 2014 saw a significant political shift. Alamgir, previously a Congress legislator, contested on a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha ticket and emerged victorious.
Sworn in as Minister Alongside CM Chamai
In Jharkhand Congress circles, the stature of Alamgir Alam can be gauged from the fact that there was speculation of his appointment as Deputy CM in the newly formed Chamai Soren government, following Hemant Soren's jail term. He took the oath of office simultaneously with CM Chamai Soren. However, the repetition of old faces in the Chamai cabinet, from the Congress quota, sparked deep resentment among legislators. They were advocating for a change from all faces that were a part of the Hemant Soren cabinet.
