Army operations against terrorists in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir have come to a completion. These operations, lasting over 24 hours, culminated in the elimination of six terrorists. The army conducted two campaigns in South Kashmir's Kulgam district, neutralizing all six terrorists.

Two Soldiers Martyred, Six Terrorists Eliminated

Police sources confirmed that the terrorists were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen and were residents of the Kulgam and Shopian districts. A significant amount of weapons and rounds were seized from the encounter sites. The army grieves the loss of two of its soldiers in these encounters.

Earlier reports indicated that two to three terrorists were hiding at a location in Modargam, Kulgam, while another was suspected to be in Chinigam, Frisal. These anti-terror operations took place on a day when the Amarnath Yatra was postponed due to poor weather conditions.

Encounters at Two Locations

The first encounter occurred in the village of Modargam, where Para Commando Lance Naik Pradeep Nain was martyred in action. Security forces initiated the operation based on intelligence reports, cornering at least two to three terrorists at their hideout.

Another clash took place in the village of Frisal, Chinigam, when security forces received information about the potential presence of Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. During the operation, Havildar Raj Kumar from the First National Rifles was martyred.

Terrorists Opened Fire

Upon reaching the villages, terrorists hiding in a house unexpectedly started firing on the security forces, which led to the violent confrontations. Intense gunfire ensued at both locations. It is to be noted that last month, two top commanders of Lashkar-e-Taiva's Pakistan-based affiliate The Resistance Front were trapped in a house during an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district.
