In the Uri sector of Northern Kashmir, the army successfully thwarted a significant infiltration attempt. Armed infiltrators were trying to penetrate through the Kamal Kot area of the Line of Control (LOC). A confrontation ensued, resulting in the army neutralizing one of the terrorists during the gunfight. The search operation by the army is still ongoing.
Notably, just a day prior (October 18), terrorists in Shopian, Jammu, and Kashmir targeted a non-local individual. The terrorists shot and killed the non-local youth.
Two months earlier, in August, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir achieved considerable success by eliminating a terrorist in Sopore. With intelligence about the terrorist's hideout, security forces conducted a search operation in Sopore, successfully neutralizing the threat.
After a decline in organized terrorism, targeted killings have continued to surface in Jammu and Kashmir. Last year, terrorists selectively targeted and killed Hindus and non-locals across various areas. Several incidents of targeted killings were reported in Anantnag, Pulwama, and Poonch.
Earlier that year, in February, terrorists in Srinagar, Jammu, and Kashmir executed targeted killings in the Habba Kadal area, shooting two individuals from the Sikh community with an AK rifle. Amrit Pal and Rohit, residents of Amritsar, lost their lives in this attack.
In February 2023, terrorists murdered a Kashmiri Pandit, Sanjay Sharma, in Pulwama. Additionally, in May 2023, terrorists shot and killed a man from Anantnag.
