Near the Line of Control (LOC) in the picturesque Akhnoor sector of Jammu & Kashmir, a courageous Indian soldier was injured in cross-border firing. According to officials, this alarming incident occurred on a forward post in the Battal area on Friday. The soldier, hit by a bullet from across the border, was promptly taken to the hospital, where his condition is steadily improving.

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of involvement by the Pakistani army or militants in this shooting. However, drawing any conclusions at this stage would be premature. Lately, there has been a surge in incidents involving IED attacks by suspected militants and ceasefire violations from Pakistan along the LOC.

Martyrdom of a Captain and a Soldier

The February 11 IED attack in the Akhnoor sector shook the nation, leading to the martyrdom of a captain and another soldier. Following this, the Indian Army's calculated response inflicted significant losses on the Pakistani forces.

Statement from the Indian Army

The Indian Army issued an official statement, asserting the ongoing ceasefire along the LOC and adherence to the agreement between the two armies. This statement served as a response to provocation by Pakistani soldiers, who engaged in firing in the Poonch district's Mendhar sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Army's statement emphasized, "Tensions arising from sporadic cross-LOC firing and suspected IED explosions are being addressed through established mechanisms. No heavy-caliber weapon firing has taken place. Minor episodes along the LOC are not unprecedented." The Indian Army further asserted that it has expressed concerns to the Pakistani army at the appropriate level.
