Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has selected Major General Roman Gofman, his military secretary, as the new director of Mossad, the country's intelligence agency. Gofman will succeed David Barnea as the director of Mossad.

Roman Gofman's five-year term will conclude in June 2026. Following a series of interviews with various candidates, Israeli PM Netanyahu chose Major General Gofman. He has requested approval for Gofman's appointment as Mossad Chief from the advisory committee on senior official appointments.

In a post, Netanyahu stated that appointing Gofman as the military secretary during wartime demonstrated his exceptional professional ability. He acted swiftly upon taking office and played a crucial role on seven warfronts. Major General Gofman has maintained consistent contact with all intelligence and security agencies, particularly Mossad.

Netanyahu believes that Major General Gofman is the most qualified and suitable candidate for the position of Mossad Director, extending his best wishes for success in this essential role. His success is seen as Israel's success. It is noteworthy that Major General Gofman has held various operational and command roles within the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Mossad, fully known as the Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations, is Israel's national intelligence agency. Mossad operates under the Israeli intelligence network, which includes Aman (Military Intelligence) and Shin Bet (Internal Security). Mossad is actively involved in intelligence operations to counter terrorism. Mossad's director reports directly to the Prime Minister.
