Rumors suggested alterations in the rules of Tatkal Ticket Booking for the Indian Railways, which transports millions daily. These viral posts falsely claimed an upcoming change on April 15, 2025, altering Tatkal ticket booking timings, with separate schedules for premium Tatkal tickets.

IRCTC Sets the Record Straight

Amidst the confusion stirred by these viral posts, IRCTC addressed the matter on social media platform X, clarifying the actual situation. They unequivocally stated that no proposal or implementation regarding changes in Tatkal booking timings is underway. IRCTC confirmed, 'Recent social media posts alluding to changes in the timings for Tatkal and Premium Tatkal bookings are inaccurate. Be it AC or Non-AC classes, no timing alterations are planned or implemented for Tatkal or Premium Tatkal bookings, and the booking schedule for agents remains unchanged.'

Current Tatkal Ticket Booking Rules

Currently, Tatkal e-tickets (Tatkal E-Ticket) can be booked one day prior to the travel date. Booking opens at 10:00 AM IST for AC classes (2A, 3A, CC, EC, 3E) and at 11:00 AM IST for non-AC classes (SL, FC, 2S). The Tatkal service is not available for First AC. Tatkal tickets are the last-minute booking scheme available through the IRCTC app and website, where limited seats are offered at a premium.

Cancellation Policy for Tatkal Tickets

It's important to note the additional Tatkal charges are set at 10% of the base fare for second class and 30% for all other classes. Most crucially, there's no refund for canceling a confirmed Tatkal ticket. However, if a Tatkal ticket remains on the waiting list and gets canceled, standard deduction rules as per existing railway guidelines will apply.
