In a statement, Trump's campaign team said, "President Trump was briefed this morning by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) regarding threats to his life from Iran. Those attempting this are trying to destabilize the United States and spread chaos."

'Threats have increased in recent months'

Trump's team stated that intelligence officials have identified that Iranian threats have significantly increased over the recent months. American government officials are actively working to protect Trump and ensure the elections are not influenced.

Iran has previously denied US claims of meddling in American affairs. However, the New York-based Permanent Mission of Iran to the United Nations and the ODNI did not respond to attempts for a statement late Tuesday night.

Previous assassination attempts on Trump

A gunman accused of a plot to kill Trump at a Florida golf course faced additional charges on Tuesday, including an attempt on the life of a prominent presidential candidate. Besides the attempt to assassinate a presidential candidate, new charges include possession of a firearm to promote violent crime and assault on a federal officer, identified in court documents as a Secret Service agent.

Notably, this was the second attempt on Donald Trump’s life in recent days. The first attack took place on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, at a rally where a gunman opened fire, resulting in one fatality and an injury to Trump’s ear.
