The countdown to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs has begun. Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Mumbai Indians (MI) have secured their playoff spots, while the journey has ended for six other teams. The grand finale of IPL 2025 is set for June 3 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.

While IPL 2025 turned into a bad dream for some teams, certain Indian players also fell short of expectations. Despite their hefty price tags, some star players failed to justify their worth, leading to their team’s exit before playoffs. Let’s take a look at these 5 players...

Rishabh Pant (270 million):

All eyes were on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant in IPL 2025, but his batting let the fans down. Scoring only 151 runs at an average of 13.72 with a strike rate of 107.09 over 13 matches, Pant’s performance was puzzling. His leadership couldn’t lift the team into playoffs despite a promising start, despite joining LSG for a massive 270 million INR.

Venkatesh Iyer (237.5 million):

Middle-order batsman Venkatesh Iyer was re-signed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping 237.5 million INR but his bat remained silent. Scoring 142 runs over 7 innings with an average of 20.28 and a strike rate of 139.21, his performance fell flat.

Ishan Kishan (112.5 million):

Ishan Kishan began his IPL 2025 campaign with a bang, scoring an unbeaten 106 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in his debut match. Despite high hopes, his form fizzled out, tallying only 231 runs in 12 matches with an average of 25.66 and a strike rate of 140.85, betraying SRH’s trust at 112.5 million INR.

Mohammed Shami (100 million):

The performance of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami in IPL 2025 has been lackluster, raising concerns for India's upcoming England tour. He captured just 6 wickets in 9 matches at an expensive economy rate of 11.23 and an average of 56.16, overshadowing his 100-million price tag and leading to his exclusion from the playing XI in recent matches.

Ravichandran Ashwin (97.5 million):

Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin returned to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after a decade, only for his form to go adrift in IPL 2025. Picking just 7 wickets in 9 matches with an economy rate of 9.12 and an average of 40.42, Ashwin could not live up to the expectations despite being purchased for 97.5 million INR.
