Following India's assertive stand on the Indus Water Treaty, all gates at the Hussainiwala Headworks in Punjab's Firozpur district have been shut. The Sutlej River's water is no longer directed towards Pakistan but is now being utilized for irrigation in Punjab's farms.
Balwinder Kumar, an executive engineer at the Hussainiwala Headworks, explained that water is sourced from Harike Head and the pond level is maintained. Gates are only opened during the flood season when water levels are high. Currently, not a single drop is released towards Pakistan.
