The alarming bomb threats received via emails by two private schools in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, turned out to be false alarms. Police have filed FIRs against unidentified individuals in connection with this incident.
Both police and school authorities informed that the threat and the subsequent search operation disrupted the staff selection commission (SSC) exam at one school, while the practical exams at the other were postponed.
DCP Vinod Kumar Meena disclosed to a news agency that New Digamber Public School, located on Khandwa Road, and Indore Public School in the Rau area each received separate emails on Tuesday morning threatening the use of RDX and human bombs against these institutions.
Upon receiving these emails, police acted promptly to evacuate the school buildings and deployed bomb squads for thorough examination, though fortunately, no explosives were discovered. Meena noted that the email, traced back to a Hotmail ID, was confirmed to be fraudulent.
Authorities have lodged cases under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the unknown culprits responsible, and an investigation is underway.
The DCP also highlighted that Indore Public School was one of the SSC exam centers. Due to the fake email and ensuing search, the examination was temporarily halted. SSC headquarters were promptly notified by the local coordinator, leading to a decision to reschedule the exam for another day.
Meanwhile, Winston Gomes, principal of New Digamber Public School, stated that immediately upon receiving the threatening email, police were alerted. As a precaution, the school's building was evacuated, and practical exams were suspended.
