The Jammu and Kashmir police have escalated their investigation into a terrorist incident that took place in Basantgarh. An individual has been arrested in connection with the case. On a sleepy Sunday morning, the 28th of April, shots rang through a remote village in the Udhampur district, in which a Village Defense Guard (VDG) member was martyred by terrorists' fire.
The army initiated a search operation to flush out terrorists hiding in the area, and around 7:45 am, a clash ensued between patrolling police, the VDG team, and the terrorists. During this encounter, VDG worker, Mohammad Sharif from Lower Ponara Basantgarh, was martyred.

First Arrest in Encounter Case
Udhampur police have secured reliable information about the suspects' behavior and are closely monitoring those with a criminal bent. The police have made an arrest, identifying the individual as Javed, son of Mohd. Hussein, from Loha Nathi in Kathua. Evidence was found on Javed indicating that he provided logistical support to the terrorists. This is the first arrest made by the police in this ongoing investigation.
Based on inputs from various sectors, the Udhampur police were able to create 6 sketches of the terrorists to share publicly and gather specific information about their presence. The police have also announced a reward for anyone providing information about the terrorists' whereabouts. A resident of Kathua named Javed was arrested by the Udhampur police for allegedly assisting the terrorists with supplies. On April 28th, a Village Defense Group guard was martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, Basantgarh. This is the first arrest in the case. Sketches of the terrorists have also been released.
