T20 World Cup 2024 Squad Analysis:
The Indian cricket team has been announced for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma is entrusted with the captaincy, with Hardik Pandya as his deputy. The notable omission is KL Rahul, not finding a spot in the team. Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh are named as reserves. Rahul's slow batting in the IPL could be the primary reason for his absence. The team selection was presided over by Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Secretary Jay Shah on Tuesday.
Rinku Singh failed to secure a spot in the main squad, lacking opportunities with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. Given more IPL playtime, Singh could have showcased his noteworthy skills.
Shubman Gill couldn't maintain his IPL 2023 form, despite leading Gujarat Titans this season, he has fallen short of expectations.
The team selection hints at an IPL performance influence, seen in Yuzvendra Chahal's return after bagging 13 wickets in 9 matches. Meanwhile, questions loom over Ruturaj Gaikwad's exclusion despite a strike-rate of 149.49 and 447 runs in 9 matches. He may have lost out in the opener's race to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma.
Unveiling why KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and others didn't make the cut.
While Rinku Singh is included as a reserve for the World Cup and not as a mainstream player, his IPL performance has been underwhelming with only 123 runs in 9 matches. However, his previous season exploits, including 474 runs in 14 matches with a striking average of 59.25, illustrate his potential.
Post his T20 International debut in August 2023, Singh played 15 matches with an outstanding average of 89.00.
Like Singh, Shubman Gill is a reserve player. Captaining Gujarat Titans in the IPL, he scored 320 runs in 10 matches but could not replicate the form that won him last year's Orange Cap with 890 runs.

Gill's less impressive T20 International record also played a role in his reserve inclusion. So far, he has 335 runs from 14 T20 matches.
KL Rahul's omission is attributed to a temperament not quite fitting the T20 mold, despite decent IPL stats, including an average of 42.00 from 9 matches and nine catches plus two stumpings.
Rahul hasn't played a T20 format since the November 2022 World Cup, with an international T20 career spanning 72 matches and 2,265 runs, averaging 37.75.
