Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a special session of Guyana's Parliament on Thursday, stating, "India has never moved forward with an expansionist mindset and has always stayed away from the desire to seize others' resources." PM Modi's speech comes amid growing global concerns over China's expansionist behavior and the conflicts arising from regional disputes. Referring to geopolitical tensions, Modi emphasized that it is time to identify and eliminate the conditions that give rise to conflicts.
PM Modi stated, "Today, challenges like terrorism, drugs, and cybercrime await us, which we must tackle to secure the future for our coming generations. This can only be achieved when we prioritize democracy and humanity."
He further remarked that India has always spoken based on principles, trust, and transparency. If even one country or region lags behind, our global targets will remain unachieved. That's why India asserts—every country matters.
'India Never Moves with Selfish Intent...'
Discussing India's foreign policy perspective, PM Modi elaborated, "India has never moved forward with selfish intent. We have never progressed with an expansionist approach. We have always distanced ourselves from the desire to seize resources."
He asserted, "I believe that whether it's space or the ocean, these should not be subjects of universal conflict but rather of cooperation. This is not a time for conflict, but a time to identify situations that generate conflicts and address them."
Narendra Modi affirmed that India supports global development in every way. With this spirit, India has emerged as the voice of the Global South. India's belief is that the Global South has endured much in the past. Historically, we progressed by protecting nature and adhering to our nature in tune with our culture, while many countries developed at the environment's expense. Today, Global South nations are bearing the brunt of climate change most heavily. It is imperative to lift the world out of this "imbalance."
He added that whether in India or Guyana, our development aspirations and dreams of providing a better life for our people align. For this, the united voice of the Global South is crucial.
