The ceasefire between India and Pakistan has been extended until May 18, as reported by reliable sources. The Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) from New Delhi and Islamabad are expected to engage in talks soon. According to the sources, during this meeting, the DGMOs of both nations will review the situation at the border. Meanwhile, 'Operation Sindoor' is ongoing, and the military is prepared for all eventualities.
This development follows a joint decision by India and Pakistan to gradually reduce the high-alert measures along the Line of Control and border areas.
On May 10, after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement.
Pakistan Offers to Talk
Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, proposed dialogues with India on Thursday, expressing readiness for peace talks. Previously, Islamabad had asked India's Ministry of Jal Shakti to reconsider the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. The Pakistani ministry warned that suspending the treaty could lead to a crisis within the country.
However, India has maintained that the Indus Waters Treaty will remain suspended until Pakistan credibly and irreversibly halts cross-border terrorism.
Pehilgham Attack and Operation Sindoor
On April 22, 2025, Pakistan-backed terrorists attacked tourists and civilians in Pehilgham, marking one of the deadliest attacks in India since the 26/11 Mumbai assaults. This incident reinforced India's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism.
In response, on May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor, which saw coordinated attacks by the Indian Air Force, Army, and Navy on terror camps in Pakistan and PoK. This mission dismantled terrorist infrastructure and sent a strong message that India will not condone any acts of terrorism.
Further Tensions and Military Actions
Following Operation Sindoor, on the night of May 7-8, Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks on 15 Indian military bases, including Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, and Amritsar. Yet, the concerted efforts of the Indian Navy, Air Force, and Army completely thwarted these assaults. The Indian Navy successfully neutralized Pakistani air threats in the maritime region using its Carrier Battle Group and advanced air defense systems.
