Team India is set to clash with England in a thrilling 5-match Test series starting June 20. This series promises to be special on many fronts. The upcoming England tour is a significant test for India's newly appointed Test captain, Shubman Gill. As per former Indian selector Saba Karim, Gill's success as captain will largely depend on his personal performance with the bat.
India has chosen Shubman Gill as captain following the retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin, marking a fresh chapter in Test cricket. Gill, though undeniably talented, is yet to truly establish himself in Test matches. With 1893 runs in 32 Tests, an average slightly below 32, and four centuries to his name, his potential is evident.

Gill's technique is solid, and his batting is enchanting, but he's yet to deliver consistent, match-winning performances typically expected of top-tier batsmen. Despite this, Saba Karim has faith in him.
According to Saba Karim, "This is a test for him. I am confident he's ready for it. This is a golden opportunity — he must deliver in his batting, and if he does, his captaincy will naturally flourish."

However, the former wicketkeeper-batsman praised the Indian team's balance. He specifically highlighted the positive blend of youthful energy and seasoned expertise in the squad. He expressed optimism about this young Indian team's outcomes. The contests will be fierce, and I believe this team is ready for them. Karim commended Karun Nair for his double century against England Lions and regarded Sai Sudharsan as a batsman to watch alongside Nair on this tour.
He also remarked that Arshdeep is an immensely talented bowler, whose previous experience in England will be advantageous. The team needed a replacement for Shami, and I believe they've made the right choice. I'm eager to see him in action too.
