In the wake of Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh's statements regarding counter-terrorism operations, Pakistan has reacted sharply. The Pakistan Foreign Office issued a statement disapproving of the provocative comments made forth by the Indian official.
Addressing a question regarding potential incursions to eradicate terrorists on Pakistani soil, Rajnath Singh asserted on Friday that India will not spare terrorists attempting to disrupt its peace, even if they hide in Pakistan. The government will settle scores with them.
In an interview with a private news channel, Singh also stated that any terrorist that troubles India from Pakistan, or attempts to do so, will face a crushing response. If they flee to Pakistan, we will pursue them there.
Pakistan Issues a Threat
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, in a statement released Saturday, said, "On January 25, 2024, Pakistan presented evidence of India's involvement in international killings on Pakistani soil. Pakistan considers the arbitrary designation of its citizens as 'terrorists' and claims of their punishment as a clear admission of guilt. Therefore, the international community must hold India accountable for its heinous and illegal activities.
The statement further read, "Pakistan is fully capable and resolute in defending its sovereignty against any provocation. As was witnessed in February 2019 when India's infringement was met with a fitting response, exposing its hollow claims. The ruling establishment in India habitually resorts to vile rhetoric to stir ultra-nationalistic sentiments and utilizes such arguments for electoral gains. Such shortsighted and irresponsible behavior not only undermines regional peace but also hinders prospective positive engagement in the future.
The statement also stressed that Pakistan has always shown its commitment to regional peace. Nonetheless, our desire for peace should not be misinterpreted. History is testament to Pakistan's strong resolve and its ability to defend itself.
British Newspaper Claims Targeted Killings by India in Pakistan
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was reacting to a report by 'The Guardian', which claimed India was behind targeted killings in Pakistan. Citing Pakistani intelligence agency ISI officials, the report alleged that India had implemented a policy of targeting those it considered hostile and that since the 2019 Pulwama attack, India's intelligence agency RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) has eliminated at least 20 individuals involved in conspiracies against India.
