Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, India's cricket team secured a commanding win over Pakistan by 7 wickets in the 2025 Asia Cup on Sunday (September 14). Chasing a modest target of 129, the Indian team reached the goal with 4 overs and one ball to spare.

After the victory over Pakistan, India's Head Coach Gautam Gambhir showered praise on his players. However, he emphasized that there is no need to compare the Indian team with other tournament teams. The atmosphere before the India-Pakistan match was tense. In April 2025, the Pahalgam terrorist attack resulted in numerous casualties, casting a shadow of grief across the nation. Following this, the Indian Army launched Operation Sindhur in May to decisively eliminate the threat. Gambhir expressed condolences to the families affected by the Pahalgam attack and saluted the Indian Army.

Speaking to Sony Sports Network, the tournament's official broadcaster, Gautam Gambhir said, "It’s a great win, but there’s still plenty of cricket ahead. Most importantly, as a team, we wanted to show solidarity with the families affected by the Pahalgam attack. We also express our gratitude to the Indian Army for their success in Operation Sindhur. I am confident we will continue to make our nation proud."

Gautam Gambhir believes that the right team combination led to this victory. According to Gambhir, the bowlers applied pressure on Pakistan from the outset, and the batsmen followed through with ease. Gambhir stated, "You cannot expect a better performance. Restricting the opposing team to 127 runs is no easy task. The trio of spinners and Bumrah set the tone with their bowling, ensuring the batsmen faced little pressure. Our start was excellent, and the team continues to work in the right direction."

Gambhir acknowledged the ups and downs he has experienced but emphasized that honesty is his true strength. Gambhir says, "Coaching comes with its good and bad days. The key is maintaining honesty in the dressing room. It's essential to surround oneself with honest individuals. Honesty is crucial for advancing Indian cricket, whether in the dressing room, on the field, or in the commentary box."

Looking ahead, Gautam Gambhir stated that he doesn’t believe in comparing with other teams in the tournament and focuses on guiding the young Indian players through a proper transition. Gambhir mentions, "You can't compare apples with oranges. Every team is unique. We just need to maintain trust in our players and support staff. The results will follow."
