Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. Aside from this, PM Modi engaged in a bilateral conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping at 5:30 PM today. It was a formal dialogue after nearly 5 years. Before their discussion, AajTak reached Ladakh, the region where India and China agreed to withdraw their forces from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and resume patrols. This agreement pertains particularly to the Depasatz and Demchok regions. Let’s explore the current situation in this area...

This agreement is hailed as a crucial triumph for India. For over four and a half years, both India and China maintained considerable military presence around the LAC, with several tense points. However, after 21 rounds of Core Commander level talks and 31 rounds of WMCC discussions, both nations agreed to begin patrolling.

'We need to remain vigilant at this time'

The Chief of the Indian Army stated the necessity for vigilance, as trust with China has deteriorated and regaining it may take time. While this marks a positive beginning, it is essential to monitor if China attempts to reenter the buffer zone established by India.

Report from the world's highest airfield

AajTak also reached the world's highest airfield, the Nyoma Airbase. This is an advanced airbase under consideration for a few years, and it is anticipated that by the end of this year, any large aircraft could land at this altitude. The BRO Commander noted its elevation is at 13,700 feet, making it the highest airfield. Its strategic significance lies in its proximity, merely 35 to 40 kilometers from the LAC by air distance.
