The India Bloc is scheduled to hold a potent assembly on the afternoon of June 1st. This convening will take place at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, with the notable absence of Mamata Banerjee and M. K. Stalin. However, T R Baalu will represent DMK at the gathering. There appears to be no participation expected from TMC members. Prominent political figures, including Champai Soren, Arvind Kejriwal, Akhilesh Yadav, Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, Sitaram Yechury, Tejashwi Yadav, and other leaders of the India Block, will be in attendance.

A critical vote on June 1st

The final phase of the Lok Sabha elections is to occur on June 1st. The India Block's meeting has been called in New Delhi for all allied parties to assess and strategize mere days before the announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha election results on June 4th. The assembly is especially significant as it occurs just a day before Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's scheduled surrender in Tihar Jail. Kejriwal received interim bail from the Supreme Court until June 1 in relation to an alleged money laundering case tied to Delhi's liquor policy. Insiders revealed to Aaj Tak that the gathering aims to review strategies and discuss the India Bloc's future initiatives concerning the election performance.

Why is Mamata opting out?

Sources suggest that the TMC has expressed its preoccupation on the day of the meeting, coinciding with the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections, which will necessitate focus from the party's top brass. Indeed, nine crucial seats in West Bengal, including two in Kolkata (South and North), are set to partake in the polls on the same day, as informed by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's decision to call for the assembly of the Bloc's leaders.
