Voting counts for 542 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats are underway. Current trends showcase a tight race between the NDA and India Bloc in Uttar Pradesh. The India Bloc has taken a surprising lead in 40 out of 80 seats according to Election Commission updates as of 1 PM.

In a strategic move, the Samajwadi Party and Congress united against the BJP in the state’s elections. Preliminary trends show the Samajwadi Party ahead in 33 and Congress in 7 seats.

The BJP's influence in Uttar Pradesh is waning, with key leaders trailing in their constituencies. Notably, Smriti Irani is about 60,000 votes behind in Amethi. Other BJP leaders lagging behind include Sakshi Maharaj from Unnao, Sanjeev Balyan from Muzaffarnagar, and Ajay Mishra Teni from Kheri.

Considering the trends, the BJP is likely to experience a significant blow in Uttar Pradesh compared to its previous haul of over 60 seats. This prompts the question – what led to this political upheaval?
