India has continuously shown its large heart, standing steadfast with neighbors in times of need. Yet again, the Indian government has played a key role by sharing crucial information concerning potential flood threats in the state of Jammu & Kashmir with Pakistan. This gesture is based purely on humanitarian grounds, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India indefinitely halted the Indus Water Treaty in April 2025. Consequently, India is no longer obliged to share water flow data and technical details under the treaty, which was operational since its inception in 1960 but was suspended due to this security concern.
High Commission Dialogue for the First Time
This incident marks the first use of the High Commission as a channel for such critical communications. Previously, information sharing would fall under the Indus Water Treaty’s jurisdiction, but with its suspension, communication has been rerouted through this channel.
