Lance Naik Dinesh Sharma hailed from the village of Mohammadpur in the Palwal district of Haryana. As news of his martyrdom reached the village, it sent ripples of grief across the area, drawing the community to console his family. Speaking to a reporter, the martyr's father, Dayachand Sharma, with a choked voice shared, 'I have five sons, three of whom are still in service. Dinesh was the eldest.'
In the wake of a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Indian Army targeted terrorist havens in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Receiving a reaction, Pakistan violated the ceasefire, and in the ensuing operations, Dinesh Sharma, a resident of the Mohammadpur village, was martyred.

Dinesh Sharma's father, Dayachand Sharma spoke about his five sons, three of whom serve in the military. Dinesh, the eldest, bravely laid down his life at the border. Two of Dinesh's brothers are also in the army, and his cousin, Mukesh, serving in the medical wing, joined the family in mourning and paying respects in their ancestral village following news of Dinesh's martyrdom. His cousin mentioned that Dinesh was deployed in the Army's Artillery Division 5 Medium. He was injured by enemy fire, which eventually led to his demise during treatment.

Dinesh Sharma's younger brother, Pushpender, shared that he spoke with Dinesh two days earlier when he inquired about the family. Dinesh's close friend Pradeep recounted that when Dinesh was heading for the operation, he made a call at 10:30 PM. He mentioned being in transit for the mission. Pradeep advised ending the call, fearing the phone's light could jeopardize the operation, promising to catch up later.
Later, at around 3 AM, Dinesh called again, but it went unanswered. By 7 AM, a follow-up call was answered by a comrade, informing that Dinesh had been injured by an explosion and was being treated. The heartbreaking news of his ultimate sacrifice soon followed.
