Husband arrested for wife's murder following Facebook photo dispute

A shocking story emerges from Meerut. Allegedly, a husband has murdered his wife with a screwdriver. It is said that there were often disputes between the husband and wife. They had an argument the night before as well. The police say the husband-wife dispute was over financial transactions and property registration.

Following the altercation over a Facebook photo posted yesterday, the husband is alleged to have stabbed his wife to death in a frenzied attack. The police have taken the accused husband into custody. About a decade ago, Deepa from Kamalapur married Lalit Verma, a resident of Mawana.

Evening dispute led to a tragic night.

After their marriage, Lalit, a professional driver, and Deepa rented a house in Jaibhim Nagar Colony, within Meerut's Bhavnpur police station area. The couple has a son aged 7 and a daughter aged 6. Lalit and Deepa had an argument on Wednesday evening, which later subsided.

That night, another dispute arose over a Facebook photo. Amidst the quarrel, Lalit attacked Deepa with a screwdriver, leading to her death. The police suggest that the couple also frequently argued over money matters.

Deepa's family stated that their son-in-law, who drives for a living, returned home from his duty at night. Deepa was sleeping in the room when Lalit fatally attacked her with a screwdriver. The family was informed about their daughter's murder by a police phone call. Following this, Deepa's two brothers went to the house. The family of the deceased woman stated that she had mentioned being physically abused by her husband.

On this matter, Meerut's Rural SP Kamlesh Bahadur stated that the husband is in custody and being interrogated. Preliminary inquiries have brought to light an ongoing domestic dispute. It was found that he had bought some land with his money and registered it in his wife's name, which was a cause of contention. A dispute over posting a Facebook photo has also surfaced.
