The startup behind the AI Pin, Humane, has been acquired by HP for a massive 116 million US dollars, equivalent to approximately Rs 1,000 crore. The AI Pin, a revolutionary device that sparked speculation among experts about its potential to render smartphones obsolete, is now facing its own end.

HP announced on Tuesday its decision to discontinue the wearable device, priced at 499 US dollars. Customers possessing the AI Pin have received notifications that their devices will cease functioning from February 28.

The AI Pin was known for its voice command-controlled operations and the ability to project displays with laser lights onto the palm or other surfaces. However, following this deal, AI Pin will no longer connect with Humane's servers, making calls, messages, and other services inaccessible.

Humane AI Pin users are advised to back up their data as the company's customer support services will also terminate on February 28.

The Humane startup was launched by former Apple employees Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri, who together raised 230 million US dollars to develop the AI Pin, which hit the market in April 2024.

HP has devised a distinct strategy for Humane, integrating its engineers and product managers into a new division named HP IQ, focused on AI innovation, promising benefits across all HP products.

Moreover, HP has also acquired Humane's CosmOS AI operating system, which supports various devices and has already showcased its impressive capabilities.
