The monsoon has unleashed havoc upon Himachal Pradesh. With relentless rains across the state, incidents of cloudbursts have been reported in many areas. In the last few days, cloudbursts in Kullu, Mandi, and Kangra districts have disrupted life immensely. So far, this calamity has claimed 31 lives, and nearly ₹300 crore worth of property has been lost.
Kullu and Kangra Worst Hit
Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi informed that the monsoon arrived earlier than usual, resulting in continuous heavy rainfall and disasters. Kullu and Kangra have been notably affected, with 17 people perishing in road accidents and 14 losing their lives to flash floods.
Devastation of Roads and Bridges
The heavy rains have extensively damaged roadways and bridges. As of now, 37 roads remain obstructed, and 47 transformers are out of operation, severely hampering electricity supply. Water supply plans are also stalled in many locations, creating significant water issues in both rural and urban areas.
Orange Alert for June 29, Advisory for Tourists Issued
The weather department has issued an Orange Alert for June 29 in the state. All district administrations have been instructed to stay vigilant. Minister Negi advised tourists to keep away from rivers, streams, and landslide-prone zones. The state government has put out an advisory, urging people to exercise caution.
Forecast of Heavier Rains in the Coming Days
According to the weather department's forecast, extremely heavy rains are expected in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur districts on June 28. Additionally, on June 29, 30, and July 1, these areas along with Chamba and Kullu might experience heavy to very heavy rains.
