Deepak, a resident of Guhana village, succumbed to his injuries on the spot, whereas his companion Mandeep was shot in the neck and severely injured. He has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

Reports indicate that Deepak had more than half a dozen criminal charges against him, including murder, and had recently been released from prison. As he was returning from Delhi Court on Thursday, assailants ambushed him near Kumaspur village and rained bullets on him. Deepak was hit by approximately eight bullets, while Mandeep suffered two bullet wounds.
