The High Court in Chandigarh held a hearing on the ongoing farmer protests in Punjab and Haryana. Where the Court scolded the lawyers dealing with the case, it also expressed its disapproval upon seeing images of protesting farmers. The Court's demeanor became especially stern when the Haryana government presented several photos of the protests. An important order was issued regarding an investigation into Shubhakaran's death. A three-member panel will be constituted, led by a retired High Court judge.

The High Court’s Ire over Protest Photos

The High Court chastised the governments of Punjab and Haryana during Thursday's hearing, emphasizing that both states had failed to properly undertake their responsibilities in this whole issue. The Court mentioned the investigation of Shubhakaran's death would be led by a retired High Court judge and a three-member committee would be established.

'You Have No Right to Stand Here': High Court

Upon viewing the photos, the High Court made a significant remark against the protesting farmers. It criticised the shameful act of using children as shields in protests, especially with weapons involved, and stated that the protestors have no right even to stand there. The Court asked if they were heading to a battlefront, condemning this as not Punjabi culture, suggesting that the leaders should be arrested and sent to Chennai for involving innocent people in such acts. The situation was repeatedly called shameful by the Court.

Significant Orders Regarding Shubhakaran’s Death

Balbir Singh Rajewal was present in the court. He has also filed a separate public interest litigation. The investigation into the death of the farmer Shubhakaran will be led by a retired High Court judge, and a three-member committee will be formed.
