A tragic accident occurred on Friday during Ganesh idol immersion in Karnataka's Hassan district. An out-of-control truck plowed into devotees participating in the immersion ceremony, resulting in 8 deaths and leaving 25 others critically injured.
The police reported that the incident took place on National Highway-373 when the truck lost control while attempting to avoid a motorcycle. The truck driver sustained injuries and has been taken into custody. Five people died at the scene, and three others succumbed to injuries during treatment, according to Hassan SP Mohammad Sujitha, confirming a total of 8 casualties.
Out of the 25 seriously injured, 18 are receiving treatment at the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), while the others are being treated at various private hospitals.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Announces 500,000 Rupee Compensation
Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event and announced financial assistance of 500,000 rupees to the families of the victims. He posted on the social media platform X expressing his condolences upon hearing that several lives were lost and over 20 severely injured during the Ganesh immersion in Hassan. He offered prayers for the peace of the deceased's souls and speedy recovery for the injured.
He stated that the government will provide a compensation of 500,000 rupees to the families of the deceased and will also bear the medical expenses for the injured. This is indeed a very sorrowful moment.
Deputy CM Expresses Condolences
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also described the accident as horrific and extended condolences to the families of the deceased. He tweeted that the severe accident that occurred during the Ganesh immersion in Mosalehosahalli, Hassan district, is deeply tragic. Hearing about this sad event has affected me profoundly. I pray for peace for the victims and that God gives their families the strength to endure this grief.
