The shocking murder of 26-year-old Nikki in Greater Noida by her in-laws has caught nationwide attention. The case escalated with serious allegations from her sister and sister-in-law, Kanchan. She claimed her in-laws plotted to get rid of Nikki so that Vipin could marry again. Despite objections, Kanchan was beaten. She remained injured and unconscious throughout the ordeal. Kanchan narrates how dowry demands turned into a deadly conspiracy against her sister.
Continuous Meetings
Rajsingh from Ropbas village in Dadri area shared that his nieces Kanchan and Nikki married brothers Rohit and Vipin Bhati from Sirsa village in December 2016. According to him, despite providing a Scorpio car, gold, silver, and other items in the marriage, the in-laws demanded an additional 35 to 36 lakh rupees post-wedding. Even when given a car, their demands didn't cease. Both women endured constant physical and emotional abuse. Despite frequent meetings and attempts at resolution, no improvement was witnessed from the accused side.
The Harrowing Night
Kanchan narrated the traumatic events of that night. She described how Vipin and other family members brutally assaulted Nikki, attacking her neck and head until she lost consciousness. They then poured flammable liquid on her and set her ablaze. With the help of neighbors, Nikki was initially rushed to Fortis Hospital in Greater Noida and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries en route. The family performed her last rites before proceeding to Kasna Police Station to seek justice.
Heartbreaking Statement of an Innocent Child
Nikki's six-year-old son was present during the incident. In a viral video, he painfully recounts how they poured something on her, slapped his mother, and set her on fire with a lighter. This video sparked widespread outrage, questioning when such brutal dowry-related deaths will end for young women.
Encounter and Arrests
The police acted swiftly in this case, arresting primary accused Vipin Bhati, who was presented before the court and sent to 14 days in judicial custody. However, the events did not end there. While taking Vipin to recover evidence around Sirsa intersection, he attempted to escape by snatching a police pistol. Police chased him, issuing warnings, and allegedly acted in self-defense when forced to shoot. Vipin was shot in the leg and hospitalized. During this time, his absconding mother, Dayawati, was apprehended following a tip-off while attempting to visit her injured son in Jim's Hospital. Dayawati was arrested. Cases have been filed against Vipin, his elder brother Rohit, mother Dayawati, and father Satveer for murder, dowry harassment, and other charges at Kasna Police Station.
