In nearly every state and city of India, cases of cyber fraud have emerged. Cybercriminals employ various tactics to deceive innocent people. Recently, cases have surfaced where the caller is abroad, but their number appears to be an Indian number.
The central government has issued directives to block fake international calls that seem like Indian numbers. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has reported that some calls that appear to be from Indian numbers are actually foreign calls made by cybercriminals. Companies have been instructed to block these calls.
It was revealed that cybercriminals change their Calling Line Identity (CLI) to hide their true identity. Such calls are involved in fake digital arrests, FedEx scams, drug/narcotics courier scams, and impersonation scams involving fake police officers or CBI officers.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have developed a system to identify and block fake international calls.
