Google has finally ushered in the era of Google Wallet in India, available for download on the Google Play Store. Some users even obtained early access to it a few days ago. With Google Wallet, you can consolidate all your passes, loyalty and gift cards in one digital enclave.

Once stored in Google Wallet, there's no longer a need to carry the physical cards with you. However, currently, it does not support payments. This app was initially launched in 2011 and, in many markets, got replaced by Google Pay in 2018.

But in the Indian domain, Google is offering both apps independently.

Google Wallet

enables you to store flight passes, transit cards, event tickets, gift cards, and more. Partnerships have been secured with India's top 20 brands to facilitate these features. From boarding passes to event tickets, Google Wallet has you covered.

Google Wallet allows you to compel your loyalty and gift cards from brands like Flipkart Supercoins, Dominos, Shoppers Stop into a singular storage point. This means no more frantic searches for the right card when you need it. Functionally similar to Apple Wallet, it's your go-to for managing an array of digital documents.

This application stands apart from Google Pay. While Google Pay caters to UPI payments, allowing money transfers and receipts via UPI, Google Wallet is all about the safekeeping of digital passes, documents, gift cards, and more.

Both applications will continue to coexist in the Indian market. Notably, Google Wallet is Wear OS compatible, enabling its use on smartwatches. Contrasting other regions, where this app includes payment services, India sees it launch as a non-payment app.

Moreover, Google Wallet introduces a Pass addition feature. Once enabled, all passes arriving at your Gmail will be automatically stored in the wallet, accessible post-biometric verification.
