The Goa police hit a major setback in the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub fire case. The Mapusa Magistrate Court extended interim relief from arrest until December 23 for Arpora Panchayat Sarpanch Roshan Redkar and Secretary, who are under scrutiny. They are accused of prioritizing trade licenses for Birch Club by helping the Luthra Brothers.

The Goa police opposed their anticipatory bail application in court, arguing that their thorough investigation is crucial in this grave incident, and the relief from arrest could hinder the investigation process. Nevertheless, the court decided to extend the interim relief.

This issue came to light following a tragic fire at Birch Club in Goa, claiming the lives of 25 people. The incident raised numerous questions about club safety measures and the licensing process.

Investigations revealed to the police that the club was permitted to operate without necessary approvals, casting suspicion on the roles of Panchayat officials.

Meanwhile, the state administration took stringent measures against nightclubs, sealing three clubs in the Anjuna area—Clara, Salud, and Mayan Beach Club—due to non-compliance with fire and other safety approvals. Officers clarified that no club flouting safety regulations would be spared.

The administration has issued a clear warning that the safety of lives stands paramount, and establishments failing to adhere to rules will be shut promptly. This measure is a step towards strictly enforcing safety standards and preventing future accidents.
