The Goa Tourism Department has issued an order to demolish a shack located at Arambol Beach, also revoking its license. This decision comes in the wake of the arrest of three of the shack's employees in connection with a murder case. The shack owner, Manuel Espiritaisao Fernandes, has been fined ₹2.5 million by the department.

According to the agency, on Sunday, 37-year-old Amar Bandekar was fatally stabbed by shack employees. Police reports indicate Bandekar protested against the illegal placement of tables on the beach, leading to the violent attack. Mandrem police have arrested three employees from the shack concerning the incident.

A spokesperson from the Goa Tourism Department mentioned that shack owner Fernandes leased it illegally to someone else, contrary to regulations. The department took stringent action by canceling the shack's license, imposing a ₹2.5 million fine, and seizing the security deposit.

The order specifies that if Fernandes does not remove the shack within seven days, the department will demolish it and recover the costs from him. Furthermore, Fernandes has been permanently blacklisted, preventing any future applications under the shack policy.

What is a Shack?

A shack is a small and temporary restaurant typically built along a beach. It is renowned for serving local food and seafood, offering a relaxed atmosphere for tourists. Constructed from bamboo or other light materials, they serve seafood, snacks, cocktails, and local dishes, and require a department-issued license.
