Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar remarked, 'We are navigating complex and uncertain times, where our united wish is to see a fair and representative global structure, not one dominated by a select few.' He subtly indicated that the dominance of certain countries on the world stage is untenable. Speaking at the BIMSTEC traditional music festival 'Saptasur' inauguration, he emphasized that this effort is often seen as 'political or economic rebalancing.'

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is a regional organization established with the signing of the Bangkok Declaration in 1997.

Originally known as BIST-EC (Bangladesh-India-Sri Lanka-Thailand Economic Cooperation), this organization is now recognized as BIMSTEC and comprises seven member nations, with Myanmar joining later in 1997, and Bhutan and Nepal joining in 2004.

'The Vital Importance of Traditions...'

Jaishankar welcomed festival participants from various BIMSTEC member countries. He stated that this music festival follows through on commitments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the BIMSTEC summit.

Jaishankar commented, 'We are living in complex and uncertain times, striving for a fair and inclusive global system, not one dominated by a few. This ambition is often portrayed as 'political or economic rebalancing.''

In his speech, the Foreign Minister also emphasized that respect and dignity within societies can be achieved through cultural skills, noting 'especially cultural skills.'

He expressed, 'In this regard, traditions hold particular significance, as they ultimately define identity. If we aim to shape the future confidently, we must be assured of our identity. For countries like ours, traditions are indeed a significant source of strength.'

'Music as a Bridge to Others...'

The Foreign Minister stressed that music is 'a conduit for culture, heritage, and tradition,’ whether individually or collectively, it is a means of creative or sometimes emotional expression.

Jaishankar further remarked, 'Music has always been a medium for connecting with oneself and others. The shared traditions and diverse nuances of BIMSTEC member countries' music will be fully displayed.'

The central minister noted that music carries an essence that makes it the soul of society, yet it becomes even more crucial when it pertains to traditional music.

Jaishankar noted, 'Like other cultural forms, music acts as a bridge between nations.'
