In the Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad, a vendor running a small stall selling tea, water, cold drinks, etc., was savagely assaulted by local thugs. The video of the brutal act has gone viral on social media. It shows a group of young men attacking the vendor and his wife and wrecking their stall.
The allegation is that a councilor from the locality, along with his associates, failed to pay for the cigarettes and cold drinks they took from the vendor. When the vendor demanded payment, they resorted to violence and even tossed his goods around.
The victim has filed a complaint at the Sahibabad police station after which the police arrested the accused councilor. The search for his accomplices, who are currently at large, is ongoing.
Powerless Vendor Faces the Wrath of Bullies
It is reported that in the Mohan Nagar area under Sahibabad's jurisdiction, a vendor named Ramu operates a stall, where he scrapes a living by selling tea, water, cold drinks, and cigarettes. On the previous Sunday, some bullies approached his shop. When Ramu asked for payment in exchange for the items, a squabble ensued, which turned violent. According to the afflicted shopkeeper, his wife and children were also assaulted. The distressing incident has been caught on video.
Ramu alleges that the BJP councilor of Ward-28, Sudhir and his brother, frequently intimidate him for demanding payments at his stall. On the day of the incident, they had taken items worth 200 rupees, including cigarettes and cold drinks. However, when he asked for the payment, they attacked him.
The video shows how a car stops at the shop, followed by some youths arriving on a bike and another vehicle. Soon after, they begin to thrash the shop, after which they start beating the shopkeeper and his wife. A case has been registered against the accused for serious charges like extortion, harassment, assault, and indecency towards a woman.
ACP of Sahibabad, Rajnish Upadhyay, has confirmed that based on the complaint, legal actions have been initiated against the accused councilor. Efforts are underway using CCTV and video evidence to identify other culprits and arrests are expected soon.
