BJP leader and current Ghaziabad MP General VK Singh has announced he will not contend in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This revelation was made on his official social media channels where he expressed that he has decided not to participate in the upcoming parliamentary race. Singh described the decision as a difficult one to make.
In an emotional social media post, Singh reflected on his life’s work. 'I have devoted my entire life to serving this nation as a soldier. For the last decade, I have tirelessly worked towards fulfilling the dream of making Ghaziabad a world-class city. I am grateful for the love and trust I have received from the citizens of this country and Ghaziabad, as well as from BJP members. These emotional bonds are invaluable to me,' he wrote.
'With these feelings in my heart, I have made a tough but thoughtful decision. I will not be fighting the elections of 2024. It was not an easy decision for me, but one that was made with deep consideration and from the heart. I seek to direct my energy and time towards new directions where I can serve my country in different ways,' he further elaborated.
'For your companionship during this journey, I thank each one of you from the bottom of my heart. Your love, support, and faith have always inspired me. I will continue to serve the country and its citizens, just in a new capacity.'
In 2014, he embraced the BJP
It is noteworthy that after retiring from the army, VK Singh stood against corruption. He was seen on stage in August 2012 at Anna Hazare's hunger strike in New Delhi's Ramlila Maidan under the India Against Corruption campaign. VK Singh joined the BJP on March 1, 2014. He contested the 2014 general elections from Ghaziabad and defeated Congress’s Raj Babbar by a margin of 567,260 votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he was re-elected as the MP from Ghaziabad.
