Prime Minister Narendra Modi proudly announced on Saturday that over one million households have already registered for the Solar Rooftop Scheme, part of the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. Registration is ongoing across India, covering diverse geographical areas.
In a social media update, PM Modi noted that Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh have seen a significant number of registrations. He encouraged those who haven't registered yet to take this opportunity to contribute to environmental sustainability and to reduce their electricity expenses significantly.
Register Soon to Reap the Benefits
PM Modi emphasizes the importance of timely registration under the Free Electricity Scheme. It's a step towards promoting a lifestyle that is kind to the environment and eventually leads to substantial savings on electricity costs for households.
Who Can Benefit from This Scheme?
Eligible applicants should be Indian citizens with a roof suitable for solar panel installation. They must also have a valid electricity connection. Note that getting a subsidy for other solar panels can affect eligibility for this scheme.
How to Register?
Start by visiting the official website at https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in and select 'Apply for Rooftop Solar'.
Choose your state and electricity distribution company's name, then enter your electricity consumer number, mobile number, and email address.
On the new page, enter your consumer number and mobile number to log in.
Fill out the form following the guidelines provided to apply for rooftop solar panels.
After completing the process, you will receive feasibility approval, after which you can get the plant installed by any registered vendor with your DISCOM.
How Much Subsidy Will Be Provided?
You need to have the last six months of electricity bills to apply. The government has announced in its budget that under the new Solar Rooftop Scheme, consumers will get a subsidy of INR 30,000 per kW up to 3 kW and INR 18,000 per kW for connections over 3 kW (Free Bijli Scheme Subsidy).
