An astonishing case of fraud has come to light in the Palghar district of Maharashtra, where over a hundred tribal women were deceived by a group of cunning thugs. More than a hundred women were swindled out of nearly two crores of rupees.
This heinous act of deception took place in Palghar's Manor area, where the members of a single family conned 105 naïve tribal women out of 1.72 crore rupees. Upon receiving a complaint, police have now registered a fraud case against the accused couple and their two sons.
The Manor police station sprang into action after the complaint was filed, and a formal case was lodged. A police officer provided details to PTI, identifying the accused as Sumaiya Patel, Yasar Patel, and their sons Alkam and Ayyank.
The police official disclosed that the deceptive couple, alongside their sons, enticed tribal women into forming Self-Help Groups (SHG) to take out loans in their names, only to divert the funds elsewhere.
When the tribal women realized the scam, they lodged a complaint with the district Superintendent of Police, Balasaheb Patil. After hearing the full account, SP Patil issued orders to register a case for fraud and other crimes under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) last Thursday.
