A flood alert has been issued as the Yamuna River approaches danger levels in Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad. Vigilance has increased after Haryana's Hathni Kund Barrage released 3.29 lakh cusecs of water. This release is expected to reach Delhi between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM tomorrow, potentially elevating the Yamuna's water level to 206 meters. Due to rising water levels, traffic has been banned on the Old Yamuna Bridge.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured the public that the government is well-prepared and confirmed the floodwaters would remain restricted to the Yamuna's floodplain. She commented, 'Drain clearing has been ongoing for six months, removing all blockages. All barrage gates are open and water flow is smooth. With 3 lakh cusecs of water released, the Yamuna could reach 207 meters or slightly above. During the Aam Aadmi Party’s tenure in 2023, the water level hit 208.66 meters, causing significant flooding.'
