HMD and Lava are introducing phones that allow you to watch TV channels without needing internet or Wi-Fi. This device will be showcased at WAVES 2025, held in Mumbai from May 1 to May 4. Both brands' phones will offer direct-to-mobile service.
This technology allows direct signals on the phone, enabling multimedia content streaming without requiring any cellular connection or internet. Lava phones come with an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) antenna that directly receives TV signals.
Lava and HMD's feature phones will contain the SL3000 chip developed by Saankhya Labs. Reports confirm Lava has collaborated with the Tejas network to prepare these handsets equipped with a MediaTek MT6261 processor. The handsets come with a 2200mAh battery and a 2.8-inch screen.

Platforms like YouTube, Netflix, or any OTT services require internet access. Without internet, these platforms remain inaccessible. However, with D2M or Direct-to-Mobile service, direct broadcast signals can be sent to devices.
This means your phone can receive broadcaster signals to display a channel or stream multimedia content without needing active internet. This technology works similarly to FM radio, which you use on your phone or car. The only difference is that, besides audio content, you will receive video content.
